1 starThis review is for MedVet Cleveland West. Close to five years ago on advise of our family vet, I took my dog (clinical suspicion of brain tumor), to MedVet CLE West for treatment. Our dog was attended to by a internal medicine vet. Pup was rx'd very heavy medications of various kinds to keep seizures at bay. During these visits unknown to me, I just found out 2.26.24, due to a comment (?) I'd made during a visit to this internist, she made it a point to "red-flag"/black-list me permanently. Whatever this comment was? Fast forward to 2.26.24. A dear rescue cat is gravely ill. I called on 2.8.24 to book a 2nd opinion appt. for next available of 2.27.24. Counting down weeks, days, hours. Never receiving confirmation & becoming concerned, I phoned MedVet CLE West inquiring about our appt., only to be told no appt. showed in their system. Receptionist put me on hold, returned (on instructions from someone else, no doubt), pretended to have found the scheduled appt. "after all." To get me off the phone. My call triggered a call from a female from the administrative offices, telling me due to some "interaction with the internist" all those years ago, I was permanently banned "from any services for any and all pets" at MedVet CLE West. I was mortified & aghast the internist took it upon herself to engage in a deep-seated vengeful act such as this. Further, the female from the administrative office was cold, callous, did not apologize that had I not followed up on my own (less than 24 hours before the booked appt.), I would have driven all that way only to be turned away with my dear gravely ill cat in tow. This is a warning. This business keeps a red-flag list only they know about. Deceitful and cruel practices black-balling customers. The callous administrative female informed me "this practice is put in place 'rarely'. They do it so well it is very hard to believe it is a rarity. That this practice happens there in secret and behind the scenes at all is an abomination.Review fromSam W

1 starZero stars is more like it. You take people worried about their animals and make it worse. We'll charge you hundreds to walk in the door, then won't update you. When your pet is still being held after 6 hours because they haven't been seen then something is very wrong Taking out loans to pay ridiculous costs when the service is **** poor. The fact that they're allowed to continue is criminal, I don't wanna know how many animals are euthanized because of their prices Shame, absolute shameReview fromGail G

1 starIf at all possible, do NOT buy your pet's medication at MedVet. For anti-nausea medication, MedVet charged me $109. 39 for four pills. The exact same medication at ***** is $46.99. When I complained about the over-charge, I was told that MedVet always suggests buying medication elsewhere to the client. MedVet did NOT do this for me. I paid twice and much as I should have for two medications. MedVet has no explanation for its price gouging.Review fromTasha S

1 starOn March 8, 2023, I took my dog to MedVet Columbus for a follow up appointment for cardiology. My dog was previously diagnosed with heart failure. However, energy levels were high with my dog, and I had no indication that he was “near death.” During the appointment, it was discovered that he had some excessive fluid in his belly, as well as some indication that he had some additional progression of his heart disease. His medication was changed quite a bit during this appointment. It was also discovered that his blood pressure was low on this appointment., but again, I was not advised that me dog was in crisis. During this appointment, his medication was changed to include two media actions that actually can lower blood pressure. Unfortunately, I believe these medication changes were a factor in my dog passing two days after his cardiology appointment. My dog passed away on March 10, 2023. He passed away very suddenly approximately 30 minutes after I gave him a dose of torsemide. I think it is unreasonable for vetmed to accept 1003.38 for medications and a plan of care that I believe contributed to my pet’s death. I think this should be refunded. I would also like my pet’s cremation charges that I paid at a different permed to be refunded to me(350). Unfortunately, so was scheduled for a follow up appointment this week after all the medication changes. I left a voicemail the day after my dog passed away to cancel. Nobody bothered to call or offer condolences. Very disappointed with the outcome of care here.*Review fromYvonne T

1 starStay clear of this place I took my JRT here for cataract surgery the anesthesia machine malfunctioned causing my dog to die although they brought him back they had to abort the surgery on the right eye to save him Afterwards they sent me to medvet Columbus to try to save the eye after months of 6 medications in his right eye he ultimately had to have his eye removed and he died 9 months later medvet did not charge me for the botched surgery but I lost my dear boy way too early*Review fromLORETTA T.

So they advertise a new "Urgent Care" that started in January 2023. Took my dog in for something on their qualifying list for Urgent Care. I spent 6 hours there and $438.00 only to get home and find out that my emailed receipt showed I was charged an Emergency fee. I called and asked about it because 2 different times while in the waiting room I asked and made it plain and clear that I was there for Urgent Care. I also called ahead of time to ask the fee to be seen. They told me it would have to be passed on to a supervisor and I would get a call back. No call came so I called back the next day because I had still not heard from the vet about my dogs urine culture and they told me if the culture had to be sent out that the lab only held the urine for 2 days. They told me they would send the Doctor an email with my concerns. First off they were the Doctor's concern as she said she may need to change the meds pending results and it may need to be sent off. I asked again about my charges while I was on the phone with them and the lady told me the same thing the last lady told me and it's that the Doctor's decide if you are taken in under Urgent Care or Emergency Care and I was seen for Emergency Care. I never authorized that.I told them Urgent care when I first checked in and again about 2 hours into sitting there. This is false advertisement and I plan to file a claim. I feel like this Urgent Care is just to lure people in and take advantage of them. I have since started a post on Social Media and found out that I am not the only person this has happened to, but I will be the person to do something about it. I currently have 4 dogs under their care 1 in Cardiology, 1 in Ophthalmology and 2 in Oncology one of which is going in for surgery in 3 week unless I move him to another Hospital for care. I love Med Vet and the care they have given my dog, but this is just wrong on so many levels to advertise something you are not providing. Still have no urine results either.MedVet Columbus

1 starIf I could give a zero, I would. 7 hours here without being seen - cleveland MedVet. My pup was diagnosed with UTI one week ago here. My vet could not get him in for follow up - antibiotics they gave did not work (they didn’t culture urine saying they didn’t get enough urine for a culture ) so came back - 7 hours!! Not seen yet and they say hopefully in an hour. I have been sitting in waiting room completely alone for well over an hour. Nobody comes out to check. No one at desk. I had to CALL the clinic while in waiting room to ask someone to come talk to me. When tech came out she couldn’t be anymore nastier to me than she was. She said to me “then take him home” Disgusting.*Review fromJessica A

My cat was barely alive when I arrived at 9pm. We had spent 4-6pm at a regular vet doing tests he was given fluids and sent home. When I got home his health declined even more and we knew it was time to go. I specially called and said I need assistance with euthanasia so he didn't continue to suffer. When I got their they asked if I approved treatment up to $750. I said no. It's time for him to go. I didn't even know for sure he was still alive. So they took him from me to check if he was. I said I didn't want to leave him we just needed a room to say goodbye but they insisted they needed to insert a catheter. Then I met them in the room to do the euthanasia. The vet was pushy and kept saying things like he has a chance if we treat him. She left and came back and said his blood sugar was too low to read when they checked it. I said WHAT I never approved anyone to do tests on him. I said I wanted to leave. After 5 mins of waiting for no one to come back to remove his catheter, I got up and left and went to the VCA clinic. MedVet struck me as incredibly untrustworthy. They were doing testing my cat that I ABSOLUTELY did NOT approve, and we're trying to make me feel guilty for not doing more tests. It was a horrible experience. I specifically came in to say goodbye to my pet. When I got home after he passed away at midnight I got an email with $153 invoice from MedVet AND a text linking to this invoice. I called and spoke the truth of this experience with their on duty office manager in detail about my experience and asked to remove the charge, she refused. I gave them the opportunity to be honest and have integrity and not charge me for something that they obvious did even though I said NO and they refused. This is called fraud. The call with the office manager was incredibly nasty, all she wanted was the money.MedVet Columbus

Thank you for forwarding the concerns regarding the care of a 15-year-old pet, during a visit to our Emergency Department at MedVet Indianapolis. I understand the client’s concerns are regarding being charged for a veterinarian’s exam when the client felt that she expressed a primary desire for humane euthanasia services. I also understand the client expressed concern regarding the timing and consent to collecting a blood sugar test for their pet. Finally, I understand that the client felt that her communications with our doctor were ‘confusing and pushy’. According to our medical records, upon the client's arrival, MedVet’s staff asked if the client was presenting her pet for euthanasia and she said, ‘I don’t know’. Our records indicate that the client did not approve a standard $750 triage charge (which includes doctor assessment and emergency diagnostics) and the client was never charged this fee. However, when a client is not certain about a euthanasia decision then an emergency doctor assesses the patient and speaks with the client about the pet’s prognosis. A doctor’s exam is the $153 charge that was billed to the client and the doctor exam was the only item charged to the client. Our medical records further note an extensive back and forth between the client and the doctor about: her cat’s prognosis, the costs of trying to figure out what is going on with her pet by way of more diagnostic tests, the chances that we could successfully treat her pet even with more information given his poor health, and ultimately if euthanasia was the right choice. This included the client approving euthanasia, the doctor coming into the exam room with euthanasia drugs and then the client stopping the doctor to ask more questions about the cat’s prognosis and if euthanasia was the right choice for the pet. The overall tone of our doctor’s notes indicates a pet in critical condition and a client who was emotional and uncertain about a major decision like the euthanasia of a beloved pet. It is our belief that charging for a doctor’s examination is fair given the time and effort put into caring for the client’s pet and helping the client through the decision-making process. The client was never charged for the blood glucose test. We acknowledge that the test was accidentally performed prior to the client giving consent for the test as checking blood sugar is a standard test performed on critically ill pets presenting to an emergency room. According to our medical records, we acknowledged this miscommunication and apologized to the client immediately. Documentation of our doctor’s interaction with the client is extensive and, as noted above, indicated a client who was emotional and uncertain about a euthanasia decision. We’re sorry that the client wasn’t fully comfortable with the communication from the doctor on her pet’s case. Notes in the pet’s record suggest a doctor trying to keep up with the various changes in the client’s posture towards her pet’s care. It appears the client elected humane euthanasia multiple times but then before the procedure was performed would stop the procedure and ask questions about whether the pet’s status could be improved, if euthanasia was the right decision, or more clarity about the prognosis. Throughout this, our doctor explained the seriousness and fragility of the pet’s current status and also that more testing would need to be approved to provide better information about possible treatment. Clear communications in a fluid situation like this can be challenging for even a very seasoned doctor. Ultimately, the client expressed a desire to leave our hospital and before we could complete all the necessary steps for discharge the client abruptly left our hospital without alerting any staff. Our hospital requires payment at discharge but due to the abrupt departure of the client, we were not able to collect payment for services rendered and this is why the client received a bill in the mail. Meeting and exceeding our clients’ expectations in service are high priorities at MedVet. We understand that end-of-life decisions can be very stressful and disconcerting experiences for a client and that these heightened emotions can affect how an experience is remembered. We stand by the accuracy of our bill, the care provided and our decision to bill the client, however we have elected to waive the client's bill as a gesture of goodwill.Review fromLupita M

I took my dog to them in 2021 and they took advantage of my lack of knowledge because she was my first pet. Charged me thousands to hand me back a pup with puffy red eyes and a stiff neck. Told me that she must’ve gotten caught up in a leash at home when 1. I dropped her off with just bloody stool and NO trauma to and 2. She wasn’t even wearing a collar at the time, I used a slip lead. To me it seemed like they left her unsupervised and got choke up in their care. I am so so sorry for your loss. They NEED to shut down or at least investigated. Too many animals have died from their negligence.MedVet Columbus

1 starThis place is just not right. They are playing a game of sentimentality, judgement, and emotional extortion. We took our 15 year old dog in because she was vomiting. They wanted $6400 to keep her overnight and get a specialists consult in the morning. The tech was incredibly pushy and made it seem like we had no choice but to pay the money. I would also note that ************ counter there were 4 receptionists just chatting; so many employees in general. We were there for 4 hours, our dog was given and IV and they checked her blood suger = $685.00. Unreal. Do not go here unless you absolutely have to. They just want money; incredibly manipulative. Dont let them make you feel bad!
