Predatory Practices and Extortion by Digital Forensics Corp. This company exploits vulnerable individuals facing distressing situations. My 17-year-old son was lured into a deceptive text conversation, which was part of an extortion scheme. Fearing exposure, he searched online and found Digital Forensics Corp., hoping they could help. Instead of offering genuine assistance, they preyed on his fear, manipulating him into paying for services. Within a couple of hours of initiating contact, my son called to cancel the service. Despite this, the company has refused to process the cancellation, continuing to charge him and threatening additional actions. He got a new debit card to avoid further charges. Still, their refusal to honor the cancellation request and their ongoing aggressive and threat-filled demands for payment amount to extortion. Upon further investigation, I discovered this company has a history of similar complaints, including misleading sales practices, unfulfilled promises, and unethical behavior regarding cancellations and payments. This alarming pattern of exploitation cannot continue unchecked. I urge the BBB to take immediate action to hold this company accountable for its predatory behavior and to prevent further harm to others.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Digital Forensics Corp. falsely claims we are engaged in a "discussion" to resolve this matter. This is not the case. They initially reached out by phone, made several excuses, and despite acknowledging that my son canceled the service within an hour, they have refused to honor the cancellation.

Instead, they are demanding that my son sign a document before they proceed with cancellation and refund. This document further illustrates their extortive tactics, as it imposes unfair terms to absolve them of their unethical practices. After consulting with my attorney, who strongly advised "Do NOT sign this under any circumstances", it became clear that this is a manipulative attempt to force compliance under questionable conditions.

After my son received this emailed document, I attempted to follow up with "Chris," the self-identified customer service manager who previously contacted me, the person answering the phone refused to connect me with his extension. No further attempts to resolve this issue have been made by Digital Forensics Corp. As a result, I am escalating this matter to the Attorney General of Iowa to ensure that businesses like this, which prey on vulnerable individuals, are held accountable for their predatory practices.  Digital Forensics Corp. must stop these deceptive tactics and honor legitimate cancellation requests without coercion or additional conditions.

      Regards,

Thank you for your feedback. To clarify, your son, who represented himself as a legal adult, signed a contract confirming this status and was our direct client. In line with our policies, we offered him a full refund and attempted to reach him several times to resolve the matter, unfortunately without success. While the atmosphere during our conversations was uncooperative on your end, we have fully adhered to our refund policy and remain committed to resolving concerns fairly. Please note that this issue pertains to your son, a legal adult, not to any business conducted directly with you.

On May 9,2024 I paid digital forensics $749 to try and extract information from an iPad I sent them. Roughly a month later they emailed me a Phase One report for case #******. In the report they identified a chat I wanted to see. They promised in writing (email) that if I paid $3200 they would immediately give me a printout of that conversation and a link for all the details of the things identified in phase one. On June 25, 2024 I paid the money and they began dodging my calls. Eventually I got through to Edward who informed me they could not recover that chat and in fact they all knew that from the beginning. I eventually got in contact with Christopher P who says he is a manager and I sent him the email that promised that printout and he said he listened to the recordings and said they did owe me my $3200 back. Now all I’m getting is crickets.

Date of transaction:8/19/24 After a blackmail and vicious charscter threats on my instgram profile that could threaten my job, in my panic i turned to a website-Digitalforensics.com, location:4400 Renaissance Pkw,Warrensville Heights, OH, 44128 I s/w(Yeshua M*******/case manager & Gabriel O/Analyst) They said they provide srvcs. for IP theft, Cyber Security,Cyber blackmail etc. To help with my situation. As (Yeshua) talked me through the proccess-he asked how many media accounts i have,my state, address, etc. Then he began to list the prices for services starting at $7,500, with the promise of multiple analysts and the hopes of catching the entire criminal ring, he procceded to decrease price and services until he reached $1500 and I explained I couldnt even afford that amount.I asked for lower than $1000 and he said no. And in my desperation he accepted $1069 w/ a dn pymt for the $69?? To be paid next month. He immediately took $1000 by my bankcard, he then asked for my personal info-any pics, and how i was contacted by the criminal. He then turned me over to analyst(Gabreil O) who then took my Instagram info & said he'd pose as me and that i was to log out and uninstall the app for my protection. In this way he'd monitor any activity. If the criminal reached out to me in any way, i was to send screenshots & block communication immediately. When I asked if i should contact the police/FBI, he said "no" ,wait 5-7 days for a report he would send me. After my initial shock, I started to think how they asked for the money and the wait to contact the authorities, I began to question the legitimacy of this whole thing. I then reached out to my bank and they had immediate concerns, put my contact on high alert, and told me to contact the BBB.

Through out this entire process Digital Forensics has been persistent in getting me to go along with their "phase 2" which is only to get me to give them more funds with predatory sales tactics and has not once actually assured me that the situation with the criminal on my account was handled.

And despite the fact that Digital Forensics notified me that the BBB contacted them, they did not officially respond to the BBB.

In March 2028, I was contacted by representatives from Digital Forensics Corp who pressured me into signing a contract worth $5,000. I was not interested in signing this contract, but the representatives employed fear-based tactics and repeatedly emphasized potential severe consequences if I did not comply. Feeling coerced and under duress, I signed the contract. Since that time, I have repeatedly tried to resolve this matter by requesting to speak with a supervisor or manager, but each time I am either placed on hold indefinitely or the call is abruptly disconnected. Despite my requests, no meaningful assistance has been provided. Since signing the contract, I have been subjected to daily harassment from your company. Representatives from Digital Forensics Corp call me from different phone numbers, threatening legal action and insisting that I have an outstanding debt that must be paid immediately. These calls are relentless and are causing significant stress and anxiety. In addition to this letter, I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), my state’s Attorney General’s office, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). I will also be exploring additional legal avenues to protect my rights and seek redress for the harm caused. I expect to hear back from you within 2 business days. If I do not receive a satisfactory response, I will be forced to take further legal action.

I sent in a broken USB to have the data recovered. I was assured over the phone by Freddie M******* that this could be done in 6-8 weeks, which was the cheapest option. This was all finalized on May 7th. It is almost 14 weeks later and I have hardly received any communication from the company regarding my broken USB. Trying to get ahold of anyone at the company is extremely difficult. My emails and phone calls are ignored. When I do speak with someone, I'm told an update just so happened to be made that morning on my account. (Coincidence?) My last encounter with my 'project coordinator', Freddie, ended in a very rude lashing out against me. I'm concerned this is now a scam and I will never receive my files or get my money back. I've attached supporting emails and charges. I do not have a receipt from them for the additional $446 I was charged when I decided to move forward with their services.

Yesterday (7/29/24) I was being scammed and was panicking and reached out to digital forensics corporation for help. After doing further research, they don’t actually help people and just another group taking a lot of money from vulnerable people. Immediately called them back (same day, maybe few hours after contact with them) to cancel everything and get a refund they promised. Every time I call, they always kept putting it off until I threatened to come to the BBB, then they said they’ll give it to me today but still haven’t received anything. I signed a contract yesterday and asked for a refund and to cancel everything asap. I gave them $1500 for a down payment and they want $500 a month for the next 15 months. There supposed address is (4400 Renaissance Pkw, Warrensville Heights, OH, 44128) and email is ([email protected])

Thank you for reaching out and providing your feedback. We regret to hear about your dissatisfaction.
We have thoroughly reviewed the situation and believe there may have been some misunderstanding. Our records show that you spoke with our customer service representative, who promptly offered you a refund for the services and cancellation of any further payments. As part of our standard procedure, a release agreement was sent to you. However, you opted to leave a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and indicated your preference to wait 30 days for the refund instead.
We are committed to ensuring our clients are satisfied and believe this issue could have been resolved without the need for a BBB complaint, as we had already extended the resolution you requested.

This service is a complete scam. They essentially have you install apps to screen share and a bogus malware apps while they ask you to navigate your settings. They essentially do this to grab screen shots to making a bogus “report ”. They essentially tried classic predatory sales techniques hoping you won’t notice upselling and quoting larger numbers for “security plans”. My step father was also speaking to them and had remarked on the final report similar remarks as he had paid over 140.00 for the “best plan and report with three months of protection and monitoring.”

Since initial contact my experience has been horrid. During my initial reaction, the representative told me horrible things would happen to me if I didn’t enroll in the company’s services. I repeatedly told the representative I was panicked and not thinking clearly but he continued to pressure me to agree to a contract quickly. I overnighted a hefty deposit to enroll in services that began June ‘23. My experience during their “investigation” was horrible - I was told I was not allowed to request updates and a rep was even rude to me when I tried. After the “investigation,” I was coerced into providing a recorded verbal statement. When I questioned the statements I was being told to agree to, I was told no details of the investigation would be shared until I did agree. The results were not what I had been promised. There was no legitimate evidence they had actually accomplished what the report claimed. Other professionals revealed I had likely been mislead. After the results were shared, the representative tried to sell me additional services using fear tactics, telling me something bad would happen to me if I didn’t buy more services. Since, I have never received an invoice from the company for payments. Several months later, employees began leaving me threatening voicemails, saying I must make payment or legal action would be taken. I never received anything official/in writing. In April ‘24 I sent in a check equaling 12 months of payments. My initial payment was due July ‘23, meaning this check paid through July ‘24. I never received a receipt or confirmation of receipt though the check was processed. The past few weeks I’ve received more threatening, harassing phone calls. More effort has gone into collecting payment than went into helping with the case/providing services. I still don’t know what I paid for or why it was so expensive. The company is disorganized, borderline unethical, and has poor standards of practice. Clearly they only seek to sell services.

A resolution was not offered. My complaint addressed more issues than just the unnecessary collections calls.  I do not feel I received the services I was promised and I have experienced an unnecessary amount of stress because of the business’ disorganization and suspicious practices. All things considered, I do not feel additional money is owed to the business. Cancellation of the remaining balance is a sufficient resolution. I do not expect a refund of the money I have already paid, but I do not feel anything additional is owed.

I was betrayed by a Tech Agent.  I was betrayed by a Tech Agent (can't recall his name) who changed the WIFI Network password when I specifically said not to touch or change anything with the Network as it wasn't mine, but my roommate's. The Tech Agent blatantly ignored my request & changed the password. My roommate was furious & blamed me for the Tech Agent's unethical actions. It was a huge mess, causing tension & mistrust in my household due to the negligence of this Tech Agent. In all my phone calls to Cyber Investigations, I never once spoke with a woman and am concerned this company only hires men. Almost every agent I spoke with was aggressive, rude, & condescending. 8/22/2023: Received "Comprehensive report," related to my info. on websites 9/6/2023: Received "Malware report," but no password so unaccessible 9/6/2023: Tried to cancel subscription, but company email was blocked & couldn't send 9/11/2023: Tried again to cancel subscription by forwarding 9/6 email to ***** **  9/26/2023: Received confirmation email that my subscription was cancelled 9/27/2023: Received revised "Examination report" that finally had summaries of all 3 devices
