Early February 2022, I put out a request for local deck contractor in Home advisor. Shortly after I started getting calls. One of these calls was from ******************* of T-ICE Carpentry. We contracted **** to construct a 16 x 16 deck and a 20 x 14 patio for a total of $12,500, 50 % down and 50% after completion. We signed the contract on 2/26/2022 and paid $6250. At this point the patio is only half built, unleveled and wavy and needs to be return all over. The deck is 16 x 14 not 16 x 16. The workmanship is quite poor. Around 8/4/2022 **** disclosed that his company went out of business and he is not obligated to finish the project we paid him to do since the company was registered as an LLC. After we paid **** the down payment of $6,250, he started working on the patio as he sought to get a deck permit. The permit was approved on 3/10/2022. After the post were up on 4/14/2022, he demanded $3000. Our backyard was an eyesore at this point. We called and texted and he refused to come. On 4/27/2020 we agreed to pay him the $3000, if he signed a contract agreeing to finish the work by 5/31/2022. He signed it, got the money and disappeared. After many calls and texts, he managed to come back enough times to build the underlying structure of the deck to the point that the second inspection could take place on 7/8/2022. Our back door is over 7ft from the ground and we had been unable to exit through the back door for months. At this point he said he did not have money to buy the deck board and railing. To speed up the process I proposed to buy the material and deduct the cost from his final pay. On 7/8/2022, I spend about $1100 on decking and paving material. When the order was ready, he picked up the deck material but not the pavers. He used the deck material to complete the deck. I contacted him multiple times to see when he would pick-up the pavers. This is the kind of man you will be dealing with if you hire him.
