My mother in law and her son (my husband), went to Beltone to see about hearing aids for his mom. They did not even try to look up to see if her health insurance ******************* would help pay for the hearing aides. Instead, they charged her over $6000. They took advantage of an elderly lady.Business Response

We take great pride in our work with the hearing impaired and pride ourselves on our comprehensive and extensive testing/explanation of the condition where one may exist. It is for this reason that your ************ and her Son felt compelled and comfortable to accept the recommendation for hearing aids. As for insurance, we always verify benefits and this formation would have been shared with the customer and her son. There are some programs that we however do not participate in, this also would have been shared with the customer.
We would love to reach out to your ************ but we only see you name and number here on the complaint, we did call you today leaving a voice message for you to please call us, we hope you will so we can clarify things for you,. At this point we don't know who the customer in question is.

I am rejecting this response because:My mother in law (****** *****) and son said you never asked for her insurance card - therefore there was no attempt to run the insurance to even verify/check. When we moved down to SC, the Beltone store here, was appalled at the fact that ****** was taken advantage of. I too am appalled. I even called and followed up with your team, and your office said that ****** told the office she didn't have insurance. And that is not true. My problem is that your team did not ask ****** for her insurance card and they DID NOT verify if her insurance covered hearing aids. Because, if your team would have checked, then as professionals, you could have guided ****** to cheaper options--- or at least be honest and guide her to a different hearing aide company that is covered under her insurance. You took advantage of ****** and her son not knowing any different. You did not offer professional advice. Instead, you let her spend over $6,000 on hearing aides.
To top it all off.... she was promised an Amazon gift card (promotion at the time)... and when I called to check on that, your staff told me that ****** said she doesn't shop on Amazon.... so nothing was sent. I told your team to send a check instead. And that hasn't happened yet either. What a scam!
False advertising and taking advantage of the elderly! I am reporting both of these.

Dear madam,
Thank you for clarifying who the customer is so that we can respond accurately to your concerns. Due to privacy laws however i cannot speak specifically in detail regarding the customer per say but, there are times where the customer tells us that they don't have insurance and only in such a case would insurance not be checked.
It is also possible that the customer has been back for more than one follow up visit post purchase where possibly no problem or concern was reported.
As for the cost of the hearing aids it is unfair to accuse us of wrong doing just because you feel that your mother law spent too much or more than you think she should have, your husband was there with her as you stated so this must have been a mutual decision.
Hearing aids today can cost upwards of $8,000 for a pair in some cases, even in the mid 90's the industry had hearing aids that cost 4-5 thousand for a pair of hearing aids, let alone in 2024. As for the gift card if you would please call us we may be able can give a specific date that a check may have been mailed to your ************* **** i cannot provide specifics here due to privacy laws.
Again we left a voice message for you yesterday and we have not yet heard back from you so that we can discuss things in more detail but please call us with your ************ present.

I am rejecting this response because:I have talked to your team over the phone several times about this already. And nothing has been done. That is why I went to BBB.
You should be able to look in your records to see if a check you sent was cashed. Im telling you ****** never received one, nor the promised Amazon card.
The point is - as professionals you should have asked to see ******* insurance card and should have done your due diligence to make sure all the options were given to ****** based on her insurance.
I and ****** feel as though you took advantage of the fact that ****** didnt know that she did in fact have hearing side coverage with her insurance.
****** had already given you her new address to send the check to.

This is more information to add to that I sent to you this morning. **** ******** indicated he had been in ***** over one year and 3 years in the business. He presented this card that it is a better business accredited business. This store is not accredited. Also we returned hearing aids on the next Tuesday after the Monday holiday.Customer Answer

Happened on 3: 14 24 my mother called her back on 3/18/24 and said she didn't like the new hearing aids they were hurting her ears and she wanted to return them she gave her appointment on the 21st at 12:50 and denied her the return of her old hearing aids & money my mother has dementia she kept her in the office for 3 hours telling her over and over she needed hearing aids these weren't doing good enough the old hearing aids were only 2 years old she only went in for a cleaning I thought it was all right that my brother took her to her appointment but my brother had brain surgery when he was 18 so he's not very well either we return the new hearing aids back to the store we never received a refundBusiness Response

As the owner of Skoric Hearing Aid Center DBA Beltone I will personally assure our customer that we are here to address any problem that she may have with the hearing aids that she purchased however, in some cases we have multiple family members get involved after the fact that were not present where others were present at time of testing and fitting.
I would please urge the customer to reach out to us so that we can address any problem she may have whatsoever as this is our obligation to her.In the case that we cannot address any problem or problems the customer may have with the ********************** devices we will be more than happy to take the hearing aids back.
