    They convinced me the reason I had lost Sirius XM on my car radio was that the computer was infected with several virus. I asked them repeatedly their affiliation; repeatedly their reply was Micro Soft.They also claimed that *****, McAfee, others not effective with Windows 11, 12 software [my laptop is an HP Pavilion purchased 3-2-2022]. Online sites do not confirm this!Your help would be appreciated.

    Zero stars! Software Sockets LLC is a total scam operation that preys on the elderly. They use fake names and claim to provide tech support and security for your computer. Do not let them take control of your computer. I learned the hard way. Instead of installing security for your firewall, they install malware that allows a page to appear that claims to be Windows Defender support and locks up your computer until you call the phone number provided for so-called support. It is actually the hackers number and they are posing as Windows support agents. Then they attempt to scam money from you in the form of gift certificates. They hacked both my wife's computer and mine. I have filed a police report and an investigation by my bank. They promised to refund my payment ( which they set up with my online banking while on my computer), but only refunded $200 of the total ($700). Be careful and steer clear of this scam operation.

    At first I felt it was money well spent to protect my computer. Now they give me a refund because their equipment crashed and they accidentally put too much money back into my account and want me to send the difference back in gift cards? Who does a legit business in gift cards? Scam?

    Scammers who take advantage of older people! Tried.to rip off my mother in law, we are trying to make sure they don't rob her blind now. Do not call a number that pops up on your screen telling you your computer has been hacked.

    I, a senior citizen, went online looking for Apple Help to help me and I found the same number listed here, which is currently still displayed here on Software Sockets BBB profile as of 2/10/24. She said she was apple trained and certified. After about 30mins of telling me to do things and it wasn’t working, she told me she needed to take over my screen. She used logmein123 to take control. After another 30mins having control, she said she figured out what was wrong and started showing me images to explain why I need a firewall. She said, “after 3 years of owning a computer there’s no protection anymore on it, and so you have to buy firewall protection.” I use an Apple iMac. She explained the pricing for said firewall protection: $500+ for one year, and $700+ for three years. Realizing I had been on the phone for an hour, I went to clue in my spouse and that’s when I realized this was a crook. I told her that I didn’t want to do it and wouldn’t be paying. She then got angry and said that she’d already been helping me for two hours (I checked the call time after - it was only 1 hour) and that now I was cancelling the whole negotiation and leaving her with nothing. Then I hung up on her. I then called the REAL AppleCare, and they said “woah yeah that’s a scam, we don’t charge you for helping with your computer, you do NOT need a firewall, and you need to close off the connection with them.” At that point, both me and the real Apple tech could see that they were NOT off of my computer, and also I could see my mouse moving around without me doing it. And I had not given the Apple tech control of my computer at that point. It was definitely whoever this woman was, and she was moving around the mouse remotely AFTER I had already said no and hung up. I couldn’t tell what she was doing. This is clearly a scam. Apple confirms it was a scam. All these other 5 star reviews are obviously fake reviews. Please be careful! And BBB please shut down this scam!!!!!!
