This is a local business from the same town. My mother inlaw paid him $130 to repair our washing machine. She told him to keep it a secret tha she gave him money and just day he was doing it as a favor to her. He came to my house and spent 2 hours tearing apart the machine, I do not know why it took so long he dropped his phone in the machine by accident, talked a lot and was going to give me an estimate on un related repairs so looked at some other work while there. He said washer was not able to be fixed and did not put it back together. Prior to leaving i offered him money not wanting to feel that i took advantage of him and not knowing my mother in law paid him. I was thinking $40 dollars but told him i didnt want to insult him by making a number up and asked him what he wanted he told me $150 did not say he was already paid $130 and then told me he was giving me a $120 discount because he is a nice guy and owns his own business. I paid him $160.00 cash. After the visit he called my mother in law explained he could not fix the washer and said i did give him some more money but wouldn't tell her how much. It was a few days later before my mother in law told us she paid him money also and wanted to know how much we gave him. That is when i realized together we paid him $290 just to say it was broken. At that point we both felt cheated by him especially since he looked me in the eye and said he gave me a substantial discount by saving me $120.00 and I called and requested a receipt for his services with the TOTAL amount he was paid, in order to let him know we both knew what he did and how he got double the money for nothing. He called me dear and said he would drop the receipt off. I explained I no longer wanted an estimate on the other work we were considering having him do but appreciated him dropping the reciept off for the work done and money paid. He never did drop the reciept off or call back.

I was requested by my customer to look at her daughter-in-law’s washing machine. I told her my service call charge was $135 plus my hourly rate once there. She then paid me the service call of $135.00 and told me “to not disclose” that she had paid me. Once there I took the washing machine apart and to make my determination that the main board was no longer good and would need replaced. I called around to multiple suppliers and I was told that the board was not available any longer. After taking apart the washer to determine the problem also making calls to find the part, I was asked how much do I owe you. I was there for 3+ hrs and told her to only give me $160.00. My hourly working rate is over $95.00 per hours and I only charged her for 2 hours. No I did not put the washing machine back together as it did not work and would take more time of which I would need to charge her for. The machine was not fixable and therefore I felt that was time wasted and not worth me charging her for. No I did not give her an invoice, as I did not have any blank ones with me that day. I have only been contacted by the daughter-in-law one time as of this date

    Respectfully,

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Please accept below response to my complaint. I apologize for the inconvenience but I mistakenly submitted response without being able to add text regarding complaint #********.

I can assure you this all could of been avoided if you had disclosed to us your hourly rate ahead of providing services. Had we known you wanted $135.00 service charge in addition to charging hourly for your 2 hours of work (not 3 hours as you mentioned in your response) at $95.00 per hour we never would of had you come out. As you mentioned my mother in law did pay the service charge and I confirmed with her that she was not told about any additional charges to evaluate whether the washer was able to be repaired or not. Again had we known it was going to end up costing $295.00 just to be told it can't be fixed (not including any type of removal) I would of cut our losses and put that money towards the new machine. I acknowledge that in front of me you made two phone calls to check on parts, those phone calls together did not last even 10 minutes, you spent more time on our phone with your wife after dropping your phone into the base of my washing machine prior to me climbing in to get it out. I was also disturbed that when you told my mother in law that I "gave you some money" that you did not disclose to her how much additional money you requested on top of the $135.00 service fee that you were already paid. Thank you for acknowledging that I did contact you once by phone after the provided service for the purpose of requesting a receipt and to notify you that I did not want any additional services from you in regards to the estimate that you were to give me about the building repairs that you evaluated also within that time frame. As you know you never produced a receipt and I waited several weeks prior to me contacting the BBB. I can also attach the phone logs of when my husband called you on 9/29/22 to ask again for a receipt and you said "you turned me into the BBB" and you hung up on him and didn't answer his return phone calls or reach out in anyway to give us a receipt or settle dispute.
