G &J Waterproofing was retained by my wife and me to replace and waterproof our basement walls. They represented themselves to be experts in that work. During the process of the work, their owner/principal, Harry W******* insisted that the original scope of the project needed to be expanded significantly for G & J to ensure/warrant that the basement would be waterproof. Relying upon *** ********* *expertise” we authorized that work to be done. We are now left with a mess. The basement walls leak, the brand new hardwood floor in the portion of the home Mr. W****** insisted needed to be rebuilt from the ground up is buckling and must be replaced and other related problems. In short, we are left with an unlivable mess. I’ve since learned that Mr. W****** has virtually no expertise in waterproofing, foundation work or residential construction in general. My wife and I have paid G & J Waterproofing approximately $120,000 and we are left with a mess.

      Business Response

      Date: 05/30/2024

The owner of G & J Waterproofing, Mr. Harry W******* has been in the waterproofing/foundation repair business for over twenty years, which includes fourteen years with his business G & J Waterproofing.

The scope of the contractual work for this project was substantial. While a substantial amount of work was completed, the price for the work was acceptable to and ultimately paid by *** ******* No one forced *** ****** to accept our proposals (as he did so voluntarily).

As for the complaint about the leak, this was not because of any work that G & J Waterproofing did incorrectly. Instead, there was historical rain and flooding within the area at this time, which was an Act of God.  Nonetheless, G & J Waterproofing responded promptly to this emergency complaint within 15 minutes. When G & J Waterproofing arrived at the scene, we took extraordinary steps during this emergency situation of installing an interior drainage system (along with a sump pump), which we have received no compensation for along with other emergency remedial measures. Based upon our contract/warranties, we are of the opinion that no further work must be completed – at this time – with respect to this “leak” despite *** ******’s continued insistence that more work should be done.

As for the alleged replacement of the brand-new hardwood floor, this has nothing to do with G & J Waterproofing. *** ****** conveniently leaves out the fact that his home is undergoing substantial construction work (by contractors that have nothing to do with G & J Waterproofing). The floor buckling is, unfortunately, the likely product of these subcontractors placing heavy debris and equipment on the flooring, which has nothing to do with G & J. G & J reserves its rights to inspect the flooring, before it delivers its final opinion. However, *** ****** has stopped responded to G & J’s communications so that we can appropriately and fully inspect the flooring situation.

Unfortunately, working with *** ****** has been an extremely difficult process as he has personally attacked Mr. W****** through repeated false statements, and comments that Mr. W****** has subjectively found to be disgusting (without going into any further detail).
