I had a land survey done on 02/08/2024 that cost me $500.00. The survey was for a property that needed to have an easement. Months after the survey when I had taken the completed survey to my attorney on 6/10/2024 she stated the survey did not include the easement and that the property was land locked which resulted the survey being sent back to DC Engineering to fix their mistake which cost me more time to get the land in my name. The survey was sent back on 6/26/2024. I reached out to J***** the manager on 6/26/2024 and told him I was unhappy with the service they provided, and he stated he would issue me a partial refund of $250.00. On 7/23/2024 I called the office for an updated as I had not received the refund check it had been 17 business days - the front desk stated J***** was out and he would call me first of week with an update. Called 7/30/2024 since I had not heard back, she said he will call me tomorrow (7/31/24). I had not received any call, I called 8/1/24 finally was able to speak to J***** and his exact words " I had talked with my office and we feel we don't owe you a refund or did anything wrong so we didn't issue you one" I then let him know that it would have been nice if he would have reached out to me since he already had agreed to issue a refund. He then said he didnt think off reaching out to me because he was busy. I let him know this was absolutely unacceptable customer service. He said he guesses he should had reached out to me and let me know.

While we are very sorry to hear that *** ***** wasn't pleased with our services, we have reviewed the matter internally and don't believe the situation warrants a refund at this time. Our office was contacted by the client in regards to a new land survey and in turn provided a quote for our services. Our office was kind enough to honor the originally quoted price, even after discovering the property was larger than expected and would require two separate Legal Descriptions. The survey was then completed in a timely manner and approved through the necessary authorities, the client paid for our services, and received copies of the final paperwork on or around 3/16/24. On 6/11/24, months after completion, the client proceeded with the steps to transfer the property into her name and some issues were brought to our attention regarding the new easement. Our office worked swiftly to rectify the matter and again provided her with final approved copies on 6/26/24 at no additional cost. *** **** then contacted our office requesting a partial refund. It was *** ****** delay in acquiring an attorney and starting the transfer process that resulted in the longer than average turnaround time. *** **** hired us to survey a portion of property that she wished to transfer into her name and she was able to do so with the documents that we provided, which we verified with the local governing office. While speaking to her on the phone, one of our partners of the business did tentatively offer to refund a portion of her payment.  However; after speaking with the survey team who handled her project, and obtaining the "full story" of the facts surrounding the situation, it was decided by both partners that DC wasn't responsible for the long delay in her property transfer; and as such did not feel that a refund was appropriate, especially when considering that the company had completed two separate surveys for the price of one by honoring the original price quote. Due to one of the partners being out of town there was no one present who could speak on his behalf regarding the refund, but a return phone call was answered and the issue addressed on 8/1/24, just a few days after his return to the office. We do sincerely apologize for the perceived lack of communication with the client regarding this issue, but the process of collecting relevant facts and discussing with pertinent parties is not something the business wanted to rush. As a small business we try our best to stay on top of calls and provide the best customer service to our clients.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

I was never informed of getting a “deal” for the survey. I was quoted $500 and never was it mentioned this wasn’t the appropriate amount charged for the job I had completed. I am Highly dissatisfied with how the company is handling this. The timeframe it took for me to get the land in my name was due to the steps the city has me complete. I only ran into an issue once we got to our attorney who stated our survey showed our property was land locked and that the survey did not include the easement to our property which resulted us having to re contact DC engineering to have their error corrected. This is why I ask for a partial refund as that should never have taken place. They told me they were refunding me per our conversation on 6/26/24 for the amount of $250. They redacted their words that they would give me a refund. I then was not made aware of their change of heart to not give me a refund which is highly inappropriate for a business who claims they are producing outstanding customer service. I had to call multiple times before I was told of this new decision, a month after I was told they would be mailing a refund. I myself work in customer service and these actions would not be appropriate to do to any customer under any situation. If you state something to a customer you can’t just change your words or decisions based on new conversations with your office.

      1) We do not utilize the use of contracts or written agreements for land surveys unless specifically requested by the customer. In this case it was not requested.

      2) I have uploaded a copy of the Invoice which was paid by *** *****.

      3) *** **** was informed that she MAY be eligible to receive a refund for a portion of the services. However this was tentative and not guaranteed. Our team reviewed the timeline and facts surrounding the situation and it was determined that nothing on our end contributed to the delay in her property transfer. As such, she was then notified of this decision by one of the business partners upon his return to the office. We have verified that the property has since been transferred successfully therefore there is no reason to expect a refund as the service was completed.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

      1) Per the conversation when the manager told me he would refund me he did not say his decision to refund me was based upon further discussions with his team, this decision was made per our conversation, the customer and the manager of DC Engineering. If a refund was not going to take place why would he state that the check for the refund would be placed in the mail the next day. I think the business needs to own up to their word and mail me a refund.

      2) In the recent response they stated "it was determined that nothing on our end contributed to the delay in her property transfer" which is a false statement as the attorney had to submit our documents back to the maps office to reach out to DC engineering to correct an error on our final survey which did in fact delay us from being able to sign documents with our attorney. They didn't have to re contact DC engineering just for the fun of it, it was because they had done something incorrect?

      3) Also another part of their statement that is false is "she was then notified of this decision by one of the business partners upon his return to the office" I was only "notified" from calling into the office a month later to follow up with them because I had not received the check in the mail like they stated I would, as I was checking the mail daily waiting for this check. Overall again this is the most non-professional encounter I have EVER experienced with a company and I will never recommend anyone to use them as they are liars and go back on there word when confronted.
