Bottom Line: I did not register for classes at Owens. Background: I spoke to an advisor at Owens (over the phone and in person), to discuss what courses I would have to take if I were to transfer, what payment options I had, etc. This meeting was for informational purposes only. The advisor stated that I should contact her if I decided to move forward. I decided not to, so I didn't contact her again or register for courses. 1-2 months later, I got a call from an employee there stating that I did not show up to the last several classes and they were checking on me. It was at that time that I was told that I registered for classes and that if I was not going to come to class, I should drop them, as the first grace period had already ended. I did exactly that, then called Owens to let them know I had not registered so how were they charging me? They were unwilling to accept that, and in turn, sent the account to the Attorney's general office. I have spoken to at least 6 people at that school since then (all of whom give me different and conflicting information), and only recently have I been read the notes that are in my file there. Much of which is completely inaccurate. I have been told that per their policy, once a student registers for classes and does not drop them in time, they are charged a portion or all of the balance. Owens continues to "advise" that I " should just pay it", and that regardless, of who registers, the account is mine and I am responsible for it. The inaccurate information that they have documented in their files is absurd and of course, they are unable to give me any further information but continue to use the false information against me. This quite the bullying and strong-arming tactic.

Upon review of this student’s account, the student web registered and web dropped classes for the spring 2018 semester.  Owens Community College has a registration audit on file for this student for that semester.  All entries have the user’s unique Owens Community College ID which they used through their individual Owens Community College student account.  Owens Community College also has on file online documentation verifying the student’s agreement to the Terms and Conditions prior to registration.

It is only possible for someone else to register on behalf of a student if the student shared his or her user name and password with someone who then logged into the student’s online account as the student and then registered.

Based on the above, no reversal of fees or refund to the student is warranted.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: None of the information I have received from this institution has been the same. They are lying, to put it as plain and possible. Half the time, I am told that I registered in person, the other times I am told I did it online. Both of which are untrue. Half the time I am told that there is no information on their end because it was too long ago, and the rest of the time I am told that there are all these details present in my file which are also untrue based on what was read to me. Legal action will be made to recover all funds taken from me on the behalf of this company and all remaining balances they claim that I owe, will not be further demanded.

      Sincerely,
