The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the governments allegations, which have not yet been proven.
On March 20, 2025 the Ohio Attorney General's Office filed a civil lawsuit in Fairfield County Common Pleas Court against defendants Dwight William Artrip, individually, Lancaster, Ohio, and The Painting Company, Inc. dba TPC, Inc., dba The Preferred Contractor, Inc., Baltimore, Ohio, alleging they violated Ohio consumer protection laws while engage in the business of soliciting and selling home improvement goods and services to consumers, including bathroom and kitchen remodels. The state alleges the defendants in some instances: provided and failed to correct shoddy work and substandard services, failed to make agreed upon payments to consumers or resolve their complaints, knowingly made misleading statements of opinions to consumers regarding the status of their refunds or complaint resolution, and did not notify consumers of their cancellation rights or provide a written notice of cancellation form that complies with Ohio law. The state is seeking consumer damages and civil penalties, and an injunction prohibiting the defendants from engaging in business as a supplier in Ohio until all monetary obligations ordered by any Ohio court have been satisfied.
