Unquoted nonquoted services. Main complaint : Large invoice for services without written agreements. Prior to the invoice #******, No other written estimates were provided by Apex, nor The General Manager, Donnie W****. There were no upfront mentions of any costs for the items on invoice #******. After 3 phone contact attempts for both; documents & failed stating dates, our church board advised me to leave message of cancellation for Apex & choosing to sign with another local company. Donnie W**** used a relative for at least one harassing phone call. W**** even showed up at the current job site with the desired & awarded contractor, to discuss his frustrations of “loosing the job.” Apex only mentioned a roofing service amount ( nothing written), and was therefore advised that we would not desire his services. Other determining factors: •The verbal, “Ballpark figure “ seemed non competitive • Members of our community advised of Donnie W****’s unethical behavior and relatively Bad Business tactics.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/22/2023

We were referred to ******. When I was contacted I went to his location and met with him in person. He expressed his concern that no one would even show up to look at the job or give them a bid. I wrote a scope for his insurance company on his behalf in an attempt to get the insurance company to pay for the repairs needed. After reaching out to the insurance adjuster multiple times, he paid $52,431.56 for the repairs needed. As first Mr ******* wanted to possibly go with a slate looking shingle, I advised him it would be $45k for that with that shingle. Then when he asked about a regular dimensional shingle, I advised him it would be $40k. This was a very steep roof that had slate so it needed re decked as well. He went on to tell me the job was mine and went as far as telling me that the money left over was going to be spent with me on other repairs needed as well. After I was told that we were awarded the job, I ordered reports and had material ready to go. On 5/17/23 I have a voicemail from him letting me know that the check had cleared the bank. On 5/26/23 at 2:47 am I received an email saying due to the delay in starting they contracted with someone else. I called him at approximately 7 am on the 26th to discuss with him. I sent an invoice to him for the costs incurred and time spent doing all the leg work for him only to contract with someone else. I stopped by the church one time to pick up my roofing samples when only Mr ******* was there, no contractors were present at the time. As far as using a family member for as least one harassing phone call, I’m not sure what he’s talking about and I never asked anyone to call anyone on my behalf. I have since told Mr ******* that I chalked it up as a loss and don’t expect any payment. Just very frustrating to do all the leg work, spend money on programs and reports after he told to me multiple times how much he appreciates it and the job was ours only to end up giving it to someone else. We do over 3 million dollars of business a year and with most of those repeat customers, we don’t do that by being unethical. We try to do everyone right and expect the same in return. I consider this done and don’t expect any payments from him.
