As a seller of cutlery, REC has a great selection to choose from. Selling is only one aspect of REC's business. They also offer consignment and trade as well. When you use this part of their business you are forced to trust them to give you an honest estimate of what you're selling. According to REC the price is taken from what the item sells for retail/on sale. This is where the problem occurred, REC store manager told me he found my items for considerably less than retail at one of their online competitors. However, the items that I was selling are so popular that they are rarely in stock and NEVER sell for less than retail. I was very familiar with the competitor they used for pricing because it was the same company that I purchased my items from originally and I had checked with them and several other sellers for pricing and availability before heading to REC. My items were out of stock everywhere and REC's store manager knew it. I called the store manager out on this fact, and he was speechless. He blatantly tried to rip me off and got caught. Of course, his boss was not available and would not be for some time. The real question is how many others has REC ripped off and how long have they been doing it?

HI Tim, There are a couple of points I'd like to bring up. First one is that we would never rip someone off and no one is ever forced to trust us. We will simply make you an offer for the knives and you have the decision to accept it or not. Buying and selling used knives probably makes up 1% of our business. It's something we offer for a convenience for our customers that don't want to go through the hassle of selling them on their own. With used knives, we determine what we would sell them for and offer you 50% of that. This is no secret. If you put them on consignment, we encourage the owner of the product to let us know what they would like to sell them for. We get 30% of the sale for consignment. The fact that the knives were out of stock everywhere may get you a higher price if you sold them yourself, but we have never and will never price gouge just because the items are hard to find, therefore, will not affect the amount we sell them for and will not affect the amount we would give you. We would sell them as used knives and they would be sold at a lower price than new. If you wanted to get more money out of them, you could have sold them on consignment for any price you wanted. Feel free to call me if you'd like to discuss this further. -Mike 614-777-8833
