    I sent a broken flash drive to this company to have them transplant the data chip into a fresh flash drive made by the same manufacturer. I enclosed both the broken flash drive and a new one. I wrapped each one separately and placed both in a padded envelope, which I sent via ******* ******** About two weeks later, I called to follow up and was told they only received the new flash drive. I explained that I'd sent the broken one along with it, wrapped separately. I was told that they only received the new one from their mail room. It seems that someone in the mail room discarded the envelope containing both flash drives without checking for any contents other than the new flash drive. The broken flash drive contains numerous files that are critical to me carrying on my law practice. The only possible way for me recover the lost data is to have a digital forensics specialist search my hard drive for any hidden copies of the files, at substantial financial cost. I would like Outsource Data Recovery staff to undertake a comprehensive search of their mail room for the missing flash drive and, if that fails, to pay for the cost of a digital forensics investigation and data recovery.

    [To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.] I am 100 percent certain that the lost media was enclosed in the envelope I sent to the business. I remember specifically wrapping it in newspaper for protection and placing it inside the padded envelope along with the other item of media.

    It's clear to me that someone in the business' mail room discarded the lost media in some manner. The business has made no effort to search for the missing item.
