12/22/23 Purchased Professional Diving Resource Scuba Refresher Class $125.00, $10.00 sales tax. 1/3/2024 Was informed that class was cancelled - due to not enough participants enrolled. Agreed to refund since no future class available. 1/28 - Received check in the mail for $125.00. 1/29 Called & Emailed asking about $10.00 refund - charge for the sales tax. No response. Multiple calls - left voice messages & emails. 3/20/2024 - called, female answered - reports they do not refund the $10.00 sales tax. Explained class cancelled - not due to me. Was informed that they do not refund the $10.00 labeled as sales tax. It is a processing fee. Explained they could of refunded the credit card. Was told that charge would of been more than the $10.00. Is this even legal? They cancelled the class and are keeping the $10.00 sales tax. Female was rude on phone - started yelling at me for calling them stating this is from Jan. Yes - I have been trying to reach you. Terrible customer service. No follow up call or explaination. I am sure the $10.00 is not being reported as income to the federal, state or local taxes. I want my $10.00 returned. I would of not paided for class in advance. Would of paid on day of service if I would of know this nonsense. This is when she hung up. Please advise.

    Business Response

The customers son called into PDR to purchase a Scuba Refresher Course through Professional Diving Resources (PDR) for his mother at the end of December and spoke to my husband, the owner.  The owner registered his mother for the class after explaining that we do not have a pool on site, that we rent pool time and that class would be held on January 7 based off of having a full class.  A full class consists of 4 students.  There may be a chance that the class can get rescheduled.  He paid for the refresher course by credit card attached to his name and ****** was registered for a course, that us as a business pays fees on that are not refundable to us.  We still refunded her. The holidays came around and our shop was closed based off of us traveling for the holidays.  When we arrived back to work, the customers mother called and I explained that we did not have any other students other than her.  We also had covid when we arrived back home from travel which I did not explain to her as I did not know until a  day after.  I offered ****** to come into our next class and she denied as she was leaving for her trip prior to that class date.  Typically we do not offer any refunds any any classes.  I did tell her that I would send her a check in the mail for the cost of the class which was $125.  I did send her a check and she received it. By the time the refund had taken place after the original purchase date, sales tax was already paid on this transaction as well.   We then left again for another trip and she called and left a voicemail.  I did not get back to her right away and she called again yesterday.  I explained to her why I only refunded $125.  Her son paid with a credit card and there are fees associated with that.  As I stated previously, typically we do not offer refunds on any classes, we usually give a store credit.  She did not want to listen to what I was stating and the conversation began to escalate and I told ****** that there is no need to argue over this situation and I am going to get off of the phone and Thank you and have a great day.  I then hung up the phone.  The flyer attached to ******* complaint is not part of PDR and was not created by PDR.
