We dropped off 4 steers for processing to Shirer Meats, LLC on January 19th, 2025. Cut orders were called in between early to mid February. The freezer beef from one steer was picked up on February 14th, 2025. After a few weeks of attempting to reach the business I went to location on the morning of Friday, March 21st, 2025. I left a voicemail on the shop cell phone the night prior saying that I was going over to see what was going on with the freezer beef orders (which should have been completed and returned a month prior). To my surprise I found the business was closed and gutted. There was a sign out front that stated closed for renovations, opening April 20th. I called the ************************************ who responded, completed a report and was initially unable to reach the owners at their home. I then contacted the **** and *** with concerns for the whereabouts and proper handling of my freezer beef. The owner, **** *********, finally called me that afternoon and left a voicemail stating that he had received a call from the *** being that I had called them. I questioned him as to why we did not receive our freezer beef back let alone why they didnt call to let us know they were closing the shop? He had very little to say but said the meat was in their freezer which was not accessible but that he would call when it was available. I told him I was contacting my attorney. I have since been contacted back by the **** and the *** meat inspector, both of whom inspected the facility. The sheriffs deputy stated he inspected the facility and that the owner said our meat was there and we could pick it up on March 31st, 2025. The meat inspector stated they inspected the facility and that they were unable to get into the freezer due to it being blocked off with equipment from the shop due to ongoing renovations. The inspector also stated there was condensation and ice on the freezer door but no external thermometer. Ongoing issue and my attorney will be in contact

I took nearly 60 pounds of deer meat up Saturday February 2nd of 2025. I was there right when they opened at 9am. I had to wait until 9:25am before anyone showed up. After taking my deer meat in they told me about two weeks. I ended up calling them on February 21st to see what the progress was. I was told it would be done by the end of the week, so I drove up that following Saturday to pick up my meat, but it still wasn't done. He told me he would have it done that week, so once again I called on March 5th. I was told it still wasn't done, but it was all in the casing and ready for the smoker. I drove back to their building Monday March 10th to pick up my meat. It once again still wasn't done. I was told it would be by tomorrow. I drove back up the next day and it still wasn't done. They told me to come back Thursday March 13th. It still wasn't done and told me to come back at 5pm that day. I went back up on Friday and Saturday and their doors were locked. Now they are not answering calls or returning my messages.

Complaint taken over the phone. See below complaint description.

    *** *********, ************. My case number is ********.

I delivered two hogs to Shire Brothers Meats on October 22. Those hogs, one weighed 287 pounds, one weighed 283 pounds. They were way loaded when we loaded them on our trailer to haul them over. We've made several phone calls to ****** Meats multiple times with no responses back.

On last week, approximately December on approximately December 27th, I've made a phone to the **** about not getting a response or not having my meat back, they called, obviously they called them. That afternoon Shire Meats called me and told me that my meat was ready to be picked up, but I couldn't pick it up because I called ****, I couldn't pick it up until Monday.

So, we went on Friday, January the 3rd, and picked up my meat. When we got there, we didn't even get half of the meat that we should have had out of those two hogs. When I complained about it and questioned it, they just kind of laughed at me like it was whatever, it was no big deal, it was too bad, nothing that I could do about it. So later that day I called them, I called into their office, and they tried to tell me that the hanging weight on my two pigs, one was 150 pounds and one was 101 pounds.

Now I've been in this, I've raised hogs for 40 years. A 287 pound hog and a 283 pound hog, your hanging weight is quite a bit more than that. So, I told them that I was like, there's no way those are my hogs. And they proceeded to just kind of laugh it off, and they're like, well, I don't know what to tell you. It is what it is. And so, I paid we paid a total of approximately $600 to have these two hogs processed.

They were it was very, very poor customer service. we did not get our meat back by no means. So they had told us that our meat was ready on the 27th of December, but when I got there on Friday, January the 3rd, they were just cutting my bacon. I had to wait because they were cutting my bacon and the bacon wasn't even frozen. So, how could my meat been done and ready to pick up a week prior when they hadn't even cut the bacon? It wasn't even frozen.

I asked them to give me a discount price on my processing, and they refused and said that it is what it is and this is how it goes. So, I have three folks, other folks got half of that meat. Out of those pigs, I donated three halves of a hog to three needy families in our community. And this is what we get back.

The business stated they were delayed in the work because they had a loved one in the hospital and communicated this to the consumer.  The butchering was done and all product was given to the consumer.

I am rejecting this response because:
The business never once contacted us until I contacted the ****   They had are pigs for over 2 months   We called them and left multiple messages and never once got a return call.   When I went to pick my meat up I advised them that this was clearly not all of my pork.  There response was this is all you got sry.  While I was there to pick it up  I had to wait for my bacon to be sliced in which was not even frozen.  My friend went to pick his half up a few days prior and they told him he had to wait as they was just slicing his bacon.  The exact same happened with the other 2 families that went to pick there halves up from these 2 pigs.   Clearly if our meat was ready for pick up they wouldnt have just been slicing the bacon at 3 different occasions of picking up.    The 2 hogs that I dropped off weighed 287lbs and 283lbs there is no way possible that the hanging weight on those pigs was 101lbs and 150 lbs.  I had another pig out of the same group that was processed at old village meats and it weighed 291lbs and hanging weight of 227  it was ready for pick up in 2 weeks    Shirer Brothers clearly did not give me my product back and there have been multiple other folks have the exact problem during the same time as I did and it is posted on Shirer Brothers Meat webpage , ******** and ****** reviews.   I feel they owe me my money back or a good portion of it.   I will file a law suit against them if need be.  This kind of business shouldnt be tolerated and it wont !   I have been raising and having pigs processed for nearly 40 yrs and this is the absolute worst experience that I have ever had    I feel there should be a thorough investigation and a hearing done on this matter

Here is the hanging weight and cut sheet from a hog that I sent into olde village meats from our county fair   This hog was raised and weighted the same as the 2 that went to Shirer bros   As you can clearly see the hanging weight is over 100lbs on 1 and close to the same on the other.   This clearly shows shirers either kept part of my meet on did not give me my meat back

    Business Response

    Date: 01/24/2025

The hanging weights were actually 180lbs and 150lbs correction on his part which we told both Mr. ******** and Ms. **** on the phone. Mr. ******** brought a blue hog with ear tag 658 and a **** cross hog. We killed both hogs the next day they were dropped off which was Monday, October 21st. Our facility has our scales certified twice a year. The state contacted us and did a visit to make sure Mr. ********* product was properly stored and safe for consumption which was passed. Bacon has a shelf life of 25 days after smoking in 45 degrees or less temperatures. We spoke with ******* **** on December 24th, 2024 and told her we would call as soon as it was completed where she would not listen and kept yelling and hung up on us while my wife  was trying to explain. His processing bill was $503.75. The state had an inspector here on Monday, December 30th ***** from 10:30am - 3pm so that the ********** could pick up their product while the state was here. B.D. *** picked up his products that day with no issues. January 3rd , *** ******** picked up his hog and then took **** ****** hog with him. January 4th , ****** *** picked up their half with no issues at pick up.

I am rejecting this response because:

nothing but complete lies.  The lady told us when I confronted you guys about where all my meat was. She said the hanging weight was 150 and 101.  Mr *** also questioned you guys when he was there to get his meat and ms *** called me and asked if that was all the meat she got. I told her that I was filing a complaint against shirers and that I would make up the difference in what she received   You said the bacon had a shelf life after smoking of 25 days  , but yet 60 days later we all had to wait for you to slice our bacon that was not frozen. Obviously according to your own admission the bacon was not ours.  You said the inspector came to inspect our meat to make sure it was properly packaged ?  That doesnt mean that he looked at MY product , just what you said was mine   Ms **** never spoke with your wife  it was actually your wifes mother that she spoke too  in fact when I came to get my meat your wife said that ms **** spoke with her mother   So even with your completely wrong hanging weights that prove those pigs was not mine  supported by info sent from another processor that processed a pig that was also hand fed with these 2 pigs that weighed the same as these 2 all 3 out of the same litter  fed for our county fair   Between myself ************* and Mr ****  we recieved *****lbs of meat out of 2  283+ hogs  we all weighed our meat and are more than willing to make statements/ appear in court.  We just want what is ours and you shirer brothers meats stole meat from myself and several others that had brought animals there in the same time frame in which I have supporting evidence of    If shirers meats does not make it right with me I will be calling the attorney generals office Friday 1/31/25  also Better Call 4  to get complete public exposer of your business and I WILL be filing a law suit against the business. I have already contacted with my  attorney   If someone doesnt stand up against this wrong doing this business will continue to steal product from people

I am rejecting this response because:
According to the inspector the bacon was still hanging in the cooler past the 25 day shelf time that shirers indicated that bacon could be kept at 45 degrees for 25 days   I understand the inspector inspected the baskets with the owners names on them but that does not mean that that is the actual hogs that I dropped off.  How would he know that those were my exact hogs other than Shirers telling him that the meat was mine?  Was he there thru the entire process of my meat? No. All he can go on is there word  in which is no good

I am rejecting this response because:
Again you folks lied all the way to the end   I thought you said you gave your attorney a check and was waiting for her to come back from vacation? Then the last response was waiting on attorney to get paper work prepared before sending the check  and now its being refunded to my credit card lol  I am so amazed youre still in business.   The Shirer Brothers built a good meat processing business over the years and was very reputable built on honesty trust and good customer relationships    Since you kids have taken it over I can see thru other bad reviews of the same thing as you did to me  this business wont survive long.  Your honesty integrity and customer service is the absolute worst. The best thing you could do is learn how to tell the truth  theres no success in being a liar !!!!
