My wife and I contracted Sue L and Chris H for a home remodeling project. The project consisted of remodeling two bathrooms and a powder room plus hardwood flooring from the great room down the hallway to the three bedrooms. Total cost was over $20,000 not including the cost of the hardwood flooring which we purchased and paid for ourselves. They asked for $7,000 down and another $7,000 after a third of the project was completed and then the remainder at the completion of the project. They gave us a timeline of around 1 and half months to complete the entire project. The hardwood flooring was installed, and Chris H did a nice job with that. The wood molding around the entire floor area was only partially completed. The hallway bathroom was partially completed and the tile work in this bathroom left a much to be desired from a quality perspective. The powder room tile floor was not completed as well. The biggest issue was that they would not show up when they said would. Numerous days were recorded where they would say they would be at the house to do the work at 10:00 a.m. only to show up hours later and then have excuses as to why they were late. And on top of that they would work for maybe two or three hours and then leave. There were only a few occasions where they actually would spend more than 4 hours of the day working on the projects. Excuses ranged from Sue was sick, Chris was sick, our truck broke down, or they were picking up materials only to not show up. The final straw came when they said they would be at our house for work and then we did not hear from them for almost two days. I called and left messages and had no reply. When I did get a reply Sue L stated she was sick from lung surgery, and **** ******* *** ***** **** **** *****, but she was at **** ***** getting material and would be at our house later on. I had to pay $756.00 to have the dumpster removed that she told was all taken care of.Initial Complaint

This company was given a deposit of $7000on 12/21/22 to remodel a laundry room and bathroom and then another amount of $5000 on 1/20/23 then and another amount of $750 on 1/25/23 nothing is finished on 2/14/23 she requested another amount of $1,500 and I said well when is this bathroom going to be done i basically paid you the full Amy for one of theses jobs to be done and she said oh for sure Friday or Saturday which was 2/17 or 2/18 and she never showed up and ignored my calls and messages she asked for more money and then she would finish she left the job sloppy and dirty unfinished and I have all my messages her claiming that she promised to finish the work I gave them more than I should of but they said they work would be done and I trusted that I have all my pics and messages to back me up and I’ve asked for all my receipts because I gave her money for materials and she keeps saying oh don’t worry about it! Very unprofessional her and her husband constantly arguing in my home and her yelling at her employee which her employees are teenagers her kidsBusiness Response

First let me start with we agreed on a contract on 1/5/23 and that is when it was signed and I received $4000 for the deposit which I have attached the proof. I am also attaching the proof of every payment made to the company, the information that **** **** has given is untrue, everything including text messages are documented. We did not receive payment when I asked her and that is when everything changed. She wanted receipts and I explained material is included your receipt is the receipt I gave, which is attached & signed. When material is included it is in the price I do not provide nor does any company provide receipts to customers when material is included. We did not receive payment so I took the weekend off, which she was unhappy about it and I explained u needed payment to pay my employees which she was rude to. My employees are not teenagers they are trained and know what they are doing and all over 20 years old. So I don't understand what that has to do with anything. They were doing the job with my husband and I and she had no issues until it was time for another payment.i never ignored her calls I explained the situation of taking off because I need payment to pay employees this is when they got extremely rude. Started posting on ******** slandering myself and the company which I am in the process with my lawyer of seeing over. Also I have a mechanics lein in the process, and my lawyer is also going after them for breach of contract. They did not have the money to go further with the remodel and that is why this is happening. I been told they do this to everyone and screws them over. As for my husband and I arguing no we may have disagreed on some things about the project and expressed issues to each other. The work was left unfinished because she kicked us out for taking the weekend off and she didn't want to pay so she even called the cops. I had to then call the cops to pick up my trailer & tools from her property because she told us not to step foot there. After we did receive our trailer and some of our tools we then realized they stole 3 ladders by breaking into our trailer, stole tools inside the house, and stole material bought by us (which they have not paid the remaining balance owed)that they did not give the police to give to us seeing they said we were not allowed to come on the property. This is another lawsuit in the process. They own businesses and they are beyond unprofessional and rude to other ontop of sladering and lying nonstop to other about our business. I have documentations, pictures and all paperwork needed for everything!. Between my labor and all the upgrades they added and stuff they stole, I am at a complete negative for this job! At the end the police told me that our best bet is to handle everything in court because they are very uncooperative and as I told them all this information ontop of information i already knew about them, they felt completely bad for what we were dealing with. I filed a police report for everything stolen also. For owning businesses themselves they were not smart in handling the situation correctly, all we did was take the weekend off and requested payment and this is what came about.Initial Complaint

A deposit was given for a fence installation on 6/9/2022. No contract was signed that indicated anywhere that the deposit was non refundable. Work was cancelled for personal reasons and refund requested on 6/16/2022. At this point NO work had been down, no materials purchased, no start date of project ever given. Refund was refused by the company (Modern Designz Co) Suzanne L********* on 6/17. Followed up the following day and since no response has been received. The company/owners are completely ghosting us and refusing to refund the deposit.Business Response

On the invoice it clearly states 50% deposit returned and I told them I would be more then happy to return 50% and the other 50 % I would even keep open as a credit for when they can afford it. I lost jobs because I changed my schedule to do their job. Also the check for the deposit which clearly state fence deposit is signature enough that they are going forward with the job besides all the text messages that I have.
