My company had worked with Birmingham Data Systems four years ago to resolve a network issue and contacted them on Sept 5th, 2023 for a similar but different network issue.I first called a ********************* after looking up the bill from the previous transaction years ago. I was instructed to email the nature of the issue, which he then passed onto a *********************. **** called us after we closed and sent me an email that read:"Please give me a call to discuss. I want to ensure that I understand your environment and your goals/requirements before I comment on this."Calling **** the next day resulted in a roughly 15 minute long conversation. I emailed him a picture of one of the computers during this call. I had attempted to email screenshots from our old router's setting, but I sent it to the wrong address and only corrected that after ending the call. Regardless, **** kept repeating I would need certain equipment before any actual attempt at connecting two computers could be made. This wasn't helpful since I explained in my first email I had wanted to set-up a wired connection with just the ports and an ethernet cable. I'd also sent a copy of our last bill in that email so they could look up any relevant information relating to our system.I then asked if I would be billed for this call and was surprised when I was told I would be. I contacted **** and made it clear I was unhappy. He responded by his raising voice, speaking in a belligerent tone, accusing me of only caring about money, but claimed he would pay **** out of pocket.**** then aggressively urged me to "work" with him, wanting a commitment. I said I needed to order the equipment before we could proceed, then we ended the call. They both sent me follow-up emails, one of which from **** claiming he had done more work I had NOT asked for but I'd "only" be charged for one hour. I refused to respond, aware any interaction might be billed. Two weeks later I was billed for $150. I never signed a contract.
